haydn string quartet
sat 15 JUNE, 5.00PM

Haydn's String Quartet in C Major, Op. 76, No. 3 “Emperor” is renowned for its slow movement, a set of cantus firmus variations on the "Kaiserhymne" originally dedicated to Francis II of Austria. It is a joyful display of Haydn's creative and technical maturity; a masterpiece from the father of the string quartet. It is celebrated for its thematic and contrapuntal intricacy, and remains a staple of the repertoire.
